Flagstaff Transit Spine Study

The Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA), the agency that operates Mountain Line fixed route service, is currently conducting a study to identify, evaluate, and select transit improvements to connect key activity centers, reduce transit travel times, and improve transit ridership and operations.

Study Purpose and Need

The Flagstaff Regional Long Range and 5-Year Transit Plan (2013) and the Flagstaff Regional Plan identify a need for faster, cross-town transit service to encourage more people to use transit. To reduce bus travel times, several traffic and transit service issues need to be addressed.

Key streets in Flagstaff have intersection traffic levels at or exceeding capacity for example Milton Road, Route 66, San Francisco, and Beaver streets.
Provide additional convenient transit service connecting key activity centers such as: Flagstaff Airport, the Woodlands Village area, Flagstaff Medical Center, Flagstaff Mall, and the 4th Street corridor.
Improve traffic congestion and transit delays resulting from limited crossings of the BNSF Railroad.
The existing downtown transit center experiences delays due to nearby roadway congestion.
